Agriculture remains central to Ruto’s economic strategy, with plans for modern irrigation systems to make arid and semi-arid areas productive.

President William Ruto has outlined a bold vision for Kenya’s economic transformation, with agriculture and financial inclusion at the heart of the plan.

Speaking during Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium, the President emphasized that his administration is prioritizing sustainable growth and empowerment through bottom-up economic policies that benefit all citizens.

Ruto stated that significant progress has been made in stabilizing the economy, with inflation brought down, the shilling stabilized, and foreign exchange reserves hitting record levels. “These efforts are aimed at reducing our reliance on debt and high taxes, while laying a solid foundation for economic freedom,” the President said.

His focus is on creating opportunities for Kenyans without burdening future generations with excessive debt.

A cornerstone of Ruto’s vision is financial inclusion. The Hustler Fund, introduced by his government, has given millions of Kenyans, including those previously blacklisted by the CRB, access to affordable credit. Over nine million Kenyans now benefit from the fund, while seven million have successfully rehabilitated their credit histories.

“This is not just about credit; it’s about restoring dignity and bringing millions back into the economic fold,” Ruto explained.

Agriculture remains central to Ruto’s economic strategy, with plans for modern irrigation systems to make arid and semi-arid areas productive. “By linking farms to markets and supporting agro-industrialisation, we aim to turn Kenya into a net exporter of agricultural products,” the President noted. These measures aim to increase productivity, reduce Kenya’s dependency on food imports, and enhance food security.

The President also highlighted the importance of human capital development, with investments in education, skills training, and infrastructure.

The government is focusing on STEM education and improvements in transport, logistics, and energy to support both agriculture and industry. Ruto’s administration is committed to reducing regional disparities, with a focus on affordable housing, healthcare, and expanded education to ensure that all areas benefit from the country’s growth.

Ruto’s economic roadmap is designed to position Kenya as a competitive global economy. His administration is combining fiscal discipline, domestic resource mobilization, and private sector partnerships to foster sustainable growth.

“The Sh5 trillion roadmap will ensure that Kenya is a first-world economy, with agriculture as a key driver of that transformation,” the President stated.

Ruto’s plan represents a transformative approach, with agriculture, financial inclusion, and human capital at its core. By creating opportunities for all citizens, the government aims to make economic freedom a reality for millions of Kenyans, ensuring no one is left behind.

Through these efforts, the President believes Kenya can overcome the challenges of poverty and exclusion and emerge as a stronger, more inclusive nation.
